asked:
i have a ’89 yamaha fzr 600 which has a thinner rear than most sport bikes and there a local guy selling Dunlop E3 Elite 110/70-17 for dirt cheap but it is labeled as a front tire and i need a rear. would this have negative effects on the handling, safety, or performance of my motorcycle? thank you!!

No. not OK, usually different tread pattern and rear wider than front, will upset braking and traction. Also wont handle right on curves.Best to buy right tire to stay safe.
If it’s actually LABELED as a front, that’s where it goes!
600cc bike will do.. 140MPH… on a tire that’s not made to take the weight & forces put out by the rear wheel…….
Im guessing you could do it…. but I wouldn’t… but Im not in a hurry to die..
NO. YOU WOULD BE AN IDIOT IF YOU DID! and it wouldnt even fit on the rim if you tried
This same question came up yesterday and I’ll tell you the same. If you’re really going to do it, you gotta do it yourself because no licensed shop will mount it for you. The entire structure of the front tire is designed and built differently than the rear. Sure on a dirt bike used around the farm kinda thing it wouldn’t matter, but your taking about a sport bike meant for the street.
The standard fitment is a 130/70-17 and that is what you need, not a narrower tyre intended for the front.
Obviously you are going to have less contact patch if you reduce the width of the tyre by 20mm – even if you could get the beads to sit properly.
If the other six answers before me were not enough then NO, NO ,NO, NO its a stupid idea and it would never fit…..don’t… P.S dont ride anywhere near me for christs sake
lmao, I don’t think it’s even possible, different design for different purpose!! I’d even be suprised if the tire fit at all. And the mechanic who suggested this to you should be arrested for stupidity!!
